Mackenzie Dern’s fight with Hannah Cifers will now take place on May 23rd at a UFC event that’s still to be officially named.
Dern had originally been scheduled to fight Ariane Carnelossi at UFC Fight Night 173 on April 25th, but her opponent was unable to leave Brazil for the event and so Cifers was brought in as her replacement before the entire card was cancelled.
Dern is coming off a loss to Amanda Ribas back in October of last year – the first of her eight fight career – and came just four months after she’d given birth to her first daughter, Moa.
Now the 27-year-old decorated BJJ specialist will be hoping to get back into the win column against Cifers, whose last fight was a TKO loss to Angela Hill back in January.
Cifers had been coming off back-to-back wins over Jodie Esquibel and Polyana Viana prior to that though and will see this is a chance to increase her stock further with a win over a higher profile fighter.
The UFC are clearly eager to make up for lost time due to the pandemic situation as they now have no less than four events currently scheduled for May, including three in the space of 8 days starting on May 9th, while there’s also another event in the works for June 6th too, and potentially more to come.
