A recently postponed featherweight title fight between current champion Amanda Nunes and Felicia Spencer has now been rebooked for an upcoming UFC event on June 6th.
Nunes had originally been pencilled in to fight Spencer on May 9th in Sao Paulo, Brazil, but though the event was later cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, ‘The Lioness’ had actually already pulled out of it, citing the difficulties in getting a full fight camp ahead of the bout.
However, it appears Nunes is now happy to proceed with a date almost a month later, although at this stage the exact location for the event remains unclear.
Nunes is moving back up to featherweight after previously having won the title with a shockingly swift 51 second KO destruction of long undefeated star Cris ‘Cyborg’ in December of 2018.
Since then Nunes has gone to add wins over Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie to her bantamweight title resume, which leaves her with five successful defenses of the belt in that weight class.
As for Spencer, she is a former Invicta FC featherweight champion who has also previously fought Cyborg in the UFC, losing out by unanimous decision, but has also recorded a first round submission win over Megan Anderson and TKO stoppage against Zarah Fairn dos Santos during her time in the Octagon to date.
