Alex Morono TKO’s Donald Cerrone In First Round At UFC On ESPN 24

Alex Morono made the most of his short-notice fight with Donald Cerrone tonight at UFC On ESPN 24, rocking and then finishing ‘Cowboy’ by TKO late in the opening round.

Round One:

Morono looked to land a huge punch to start, but Cerrone avoided that and clinched up. He looks to get him to the cage, but Morono ends up doing that to him instead.

Morono with a knee and then attempts an uppercut as they back up. Head kick from Morono almost got through. He’s really pushing the pace early here.

Body kick from Cerrone. Now a punch lands. Low leg kick for Cerrone. Right hand for Morono. Jab from Morono, body kick in response from Cerrone.

Light leg kick from Morono and then a right hand. Another solid body kick from Cerrone. Cerrone ducks under a punch and tries to work a takedown, but Morono turns him into the cage and then trips him to the mat. He doesn’t follow him to the ground though.

They go back to striking. Front kick to the body from Cerrone. He lands a leg kick too. Quick jab from him. Hard right from Morono. left gets through from Cowboy.

Double jab and a right hand from Morono. Low leg kick and a right hook from Morono. Another right hand. Cerrone lands, but then Morono blasts him with a big right hook and Cerrone is wobbled backwards.

Cerrone in survival mode as Morono swarms on him. He tries to kick him away, but Morono marches forward throwing punches against the cage and the ref steps in to save Cowboy from further punishment. Big TKO win for Morono at 4.40mins of the first round!

That’s now six fights without a win for Cerrone, and with four of them having ended by TKO, Dana White may again be contemplating having a serious conversation with the veteran star about his fighting future.
