Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic Might Not Happen Until September

Jon Jones has revealed that a potential heavyweight clash with former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic might not happen until at least September.

“Stipe is saying that he will be at his absolute peak in September,” Jones stated on Twitter. “I’m disappointed but patient, I want the heavyweight goat at his absolute best. I’ll wait until September. No excuses.”

Despite his positive outlook, Jones went on to agree with a fan who had replied to the news with a comment sayng, “man, that sucks.”

“It really does man, my coaches and their families were definitely excited for this fight,” Jones responded. “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed today.”

Someone else likely to be frustrated by the delay is Dana White who had targeted Jones return to the Octagon as one of his highest priorities for 2022 and had recently stated his eagerness to have him fight Miocic during their already stacked summer schedule.

If September is the landing spot for the clash then it will have been well over two-and-a-half years since Jones last set foot in the Octagon, defending his light-heavyweight title by picking up a unanimous decision win over Dominick Reyes, before vacating the belt to prepare for his move up to heavyweight.
