Glover Teixeira Calls For Immediate Rematch With Jiri Prochazka

Just days after losing his light-heavyweight title to Jiri Prochazka by submission after an instant-classic fight at UFC 275, Glove Teixeira is calling for a rematch, and it seems the 42-year-old wants to do it sooner rather than later.

“I just saw the fight and it reminds me Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson, which was one of the most exciting fights I saw live,” Teixeira said on the Papo de Luta podcast. “Of course, when you know the result the emotion is different, but I was able to understand why people are saying it was so exciting.”

Reflecting on the fight, Teixeira admits it was a mistake to take Prochazka down in the final round despite having him in trouble on the feet.

“Of course, when I look at that guillotine, I want to cry. From an outside [perspective], it was pretty clear to see how dazed Jiri was, but people need to understand that since Day 1 of the camp my strategy was to take him down, so it was kind of natural when I saw that long neck in front of me, to attack it,” Teixeira said. “But it is what it is. Jiri was a great warrior, made the right decision and deserved to win. The best thing to do is do another one. The fans deserve that and I’m willing to face him again.”

Despite the two going to war for five rounds, Teixeira says he didn’t sustain any major damage and so it seems that he’d be ready, willing and able to accept a rematch with Prochazka in the very near future.

“I didn’t break any bones. I just had a brain MRI and everything is perfect,” Texieria said. “My only injury was a cut between my fingers when I mounted him in the fourth round and held it off the fence. I just need three weeks to recover from that cut, relax my body and soul, see [Alex Pereira] beat up [Sean] Strickland and, right after that, return to do what I love the most.”
