A recently announced UFC Fight Night 212 main event between Sean Strickland and Jared Cannonier has been cancelled after Strickland suffered an infection to one of his fingers.
“I don’t know what the f**k happened,” Strickland in an Instagram video from hospital at the weekend before the fight cancellation was announced. “Camp was going really f**king good. I had a hard sparring on Thursday. I woke up on Friday and go, you know what, my finger is a little sore. Throughout the day I was like, my finger is f**ked, so I went to the hospital. It turns out I have a really bad infection.”
It’s believed that the infection came as the result of his finger being sliced by a sparring partner’s tooth and as a result he requires minor surgery, leading to Dana White confirming last night that his fight with Cannonier on October 15th has had to be cancelled.
As things stand it seems that the UFC will now be looking for an alternative opponent to keep Cannonier on the card.
That leaves the UFC Fight Night 212 card needing a new headlining fight for an event that will also feature the likes of Askar Askarov vs. Brandon Royval and Viviane Araujo vs. Alexa Grasso.
