UFC 146: Fight Card

Over the past couple of the months UFC 146 fight card has undergone a complete overhaul due to injuries, suspensions and switch-arounds, so it’s about time for a recap on exactly what we will be watching this Saturday night – and the good news is that despite the upheaval it’s still an all-heavyweight main card.

Headlining the show is a heavyweight title fight as Junior Dos Santos prepares to defend his belt against former champion Frank Mir.

Mir broke JDS’s mentor ‘Big Nog’s’ arm in his last fight and so the Brazilian will be looking for vengeance by way of KO, but he’ll have to be wary of going to ground or else there’s a chance he’ll suffer the same fate.

Co-main event duties are handed to another former champion Cain Velasquez who’ll be hoping to make a quick return to No.1 contender status if he can defeat former Strikeforce Grand-Prix semi-finalist Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva.

Roy Nelson’s won just one of his last four fights so a win is a must for him on Saturday night against Dave ‘PeeWee’ Herman who’s 1-1 in his UFC career so far.

The last man to beat Herman was Stefan Struve, and he’s also in action on the main card, fighting the heavy-handed Lavar Johnson who’s so far picked up two quick wins since moving over from Strikeforce.

Finally, another former Strikeforce product Shane Del Rosario, who was an alternate in their recent Grand-Prix until a car accident resulted in a long injury layoff, finally returns to action against another up-and-comer Stipe Miocic who’s on a two-fight win streak so far in the UFC.
