Aaron Simpson Drops To 170lbs To Face Jon Fitch At UFC On Fuel TV 4

UFC middleweight fighter Aaron Simpson is set to drop down to the welterweight division to take on Jon Fitch at ‘UFC On Fuel TV 4’ on July 11th.

Explaining his decision to move down a weight class, Simpson told fans at a Q&A session on Monday that he was one of the smaller fighters in the division he’s been fighting in.

“Everybody in my weight class is probably right now, out of training, 220 (pounds), maybe bigger. Mark Munoz is up to 230 at times. I don’t get over 195.”

Despite being at a size disadvantage Simpson did manage to compile a 6-3 record overall at 185lbs and the wrestler will be a solid addition to the 170lbs ranks.

Putting him in against Fitch, a fighter who’s lost just twice in his 16 fights in the welterweight division, is a tough ask for his debut at this weight, and he admits it could turn into a “griding, gruelling fight.”

Simpson Vs Fitch now forms part of the ‘UFC On Fuel TV 4’ fight card which will be headlined by Mark Munoz Vs Chris Weidman in San Jose.
