Alexander Gustafsson And Jon Jones Trade Verbal Jabs

Alexander Gustafsson may no longer be fighting Jon Jones at UFC 178 due to a torn meniscus, but that hasn’t stopped him from continuing to trade verbal jabs with his rival on Twitter.

“@jonnybones, really sorry for the deep cut I gave you in our last fight,” Gustafsson told Jones on Twitter. “At least you will have a memory from me every time someone opens it up for you. To not make your other eye jealous for not having a cut, I promise to leave a memory on that one as well next time we fight. Now, take care.”

Jones has been busy trash-talking with the man who will now face him on September 27th, Daniel Cormier, but he did take time to respond to the Swede.

“Yes Alex you cut me but you didn’t win the fight,” Jones replied. “Focus on things you can control like recovery. You had your chance. Now please stop with the media stunts so I can focus on my next victim. thank you.”

Gustafsson’s injury isn’t too serious – requiring surgery followed by five to six weeks of rehab – and that means he should be ready, willing and able to face the winner of Jones Vs Cormier either late this year, or more than likely early in 2015.

Over the years I've watched the UFC develop into the powerhouse it is today, organizations like PRIDE, Strikeforce and WEC rise and fall, and Bellator emerge as a new force on the MMA landscape. Throughout it all I've remained captivated by the sport and I'm excited to cover what comes next here on MMA Insight.
