Alexander Gustafsson Fight With Gegard Mousasi Likely To Be Nixed Due To Injury

We’re just a week away from UFC On Fuel TV 9 and disaster appears to have struck as word has just reached us that headliner Alexander Gustafsson may have to pull out of the event due to injury.

Reports emerging from Sweden indicate that Gustafsson has suffered a cut in training and as such is almost certain to be out of his fight against Gegard Mousasi on Saturday night.

If so it’s a huge blow for the card and at such short notice it’s going to be hard for the UFC to find a suitable replacement to face the former Strikeforce 205lb champion Mousasi who was looking to make his UFC debut at the event.

The Swedish fans in particular will be upset by the news as Gustafsson is their home town hero and the reason that tickets sold exceptionally fast for the event.

The show must go on though and if a suitable opponent can’t be found for Gustafsson then the UFC are going to have to make do with either Ross Pearson Vs Ryan Couture or Matt Mitrione Vs Phil De Fries as the main event, with neither bout really sounding like an ideal replacement.

Ross launched MMA Insight (previously FightOfTheNight.com) in 2009 as a way to channel his passion for the sport of mixed martial arts. He's since penned countless news stories and live fight reports along with dozens of feature articles as the lead writer for the site, reaching millions of fans in the process.
