Alexander Gustafsson will once again head back to his homeland of Sweden to headline a Fuel TV event on April 6th.
It’s reported that verbal agreements are in place for him to welcome former Strikeforce and DREAM light-heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi to the Octagon at the event.
Gustafsson is currently considered one of the UFC’s top 205lb contenders after a six fight winning streak that’s included high profile wins over Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua and Thiago Silva.
Really that should have been enough to earn him the next shot at the title, but with current champion Jon Jones facing Chael Sonnen in April and Dan Henderson going up against Lyoto Machida in February it looks like he might have to wait a while yet.
That could prove risky as Mousasi is a real threat here who in addition to elite-level kickboxing experience has also amassed a very impressive 33-3-2 professional record that includes only a solitary loss to Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal over the past seven years.
I must admit I’m very intrigued by this fight. Mousasi might not be as big a name worldwide as ‘Shogun’ was, but make no mistake that this could prove to be Gustafsson’s toughest test to date.
