One of the big fights on the UFC 225 pay-per-view card in Chicago on June 9th is a heavyweight clash between Alistair Overeem and Curtis Blaydes, but in a surprising move it has now been dropped down to the prelim portion of the event.
The No.2 ranked Overeem and No.4 placed Blaydes now headlines the prelims, while taking their place on the main card will be a women’s featherweight clash between Holly Holm and Megan Anderson.
Curiously, another heavyweight fight between the No.9 ranked Andrei Arlovski and No.12 placed Tai Tuiavasa remains on the PPV.
Both Overeem and Blaydes have since reacted to the news, with both admitting they don’t know the reason for the switch, while attempting to downplay the significance of it.
“I’ve got no idea why the change was made and tbh idc it literally changes nothing, still getting paid and still have a job to do,” Blaydes wrote in Instagram. “Only perk is now I get to clock out of work closer to 8 as opposed to like 10ish #razorblaydes #UFC225 #shithappens #calmyourtits #moneymakestheworldgoround #chicago #heavyweight #summertimechi.”
Overeem reacted in much the same fashion over on Twitter.
“For the record I have no problem with the decision because now people in Europe don’t have to stay up late and the sooner the better,” Overeem told his fans.
