Two-division champion Amanda Nunes will return to bantamweight to defend her title against Holly Holm at UFC 239 on July 6th during International Fight Week in Las Vegas.
Nunes last title defense at 135lbs came against Raquel Pennington at UFC 224 in June of last year, earning a fifth round TKO stoppage. That was her third successive defense in the division, having also emerged victorious against Ronda Rousey and Valentina Shevchenko.
Last time out Nunes then took at step up to featherweight and earned an historic knockout victory over Cris ‘Cyborg’ in just 54 seconds to end her long unbeaten run and claim the title.
Now she’ll go back down a division to take on a former 135lb champ in Holm, who earned a decision victory over Megan Anderson at featherweight in her last Octagon outing.
Prior to that Holm had lost out by decision to Cris Cyborg in the division, while her last fight at bantamweight was actually back in June of 2017 when she knocked out Bethe Correia with a head kick and follow-up punches.
Nunes Vs Holm joins a UFC 239 card that’s set to be headlined by a light-heavyweight title encounter between Jon Jones and Thiago Santos for one of the biggest events of 2019.
