On the verge of his comeback fight at UFC 183 on January 31st it’s been announced that Anderson Silva will get another shot at the middleweight title if he defeats Nick Diaz.
“Diaz and Anderson Silva are fighting, and obviously if Anderson Silva wins that fight, and whether Vitor or Weidman win, then you have Anderson Silva versus either one of those guys,” White stated on the UFC Tonight show on FOX Sports 1 last night.
Silva has been out of action for over a year with the broken leg he suffered during a second defeat to current champion Weidman at UFC 168. In interviews with the media during that period he’s gone back and forth about the idea of fighting for the title again – at one stage stating that he was no longer interested in competing for the belt he held for many years, while later indicating that he would take the opportunity if it was offered to him.
However, talk of a title shot at this stage seems premature. Silva is now 39 years-old, is coming off two losses in a row and is attempting to recover both physically and mentally from a brutally broken leg, so for the time being surely all that really matters is what’s directly in front of him, and that’s his upcoming fight with Diaz.
