Strawweight fighter Angela Hill has confirmed that she’s been released from the UFC.
The 27 year-old Hill arrived in the UFC via The Ultimate Fighter 20 with just one professional fight to her name, losing out to the eventual winner of the show, Carla Esparza in the preliminary round.
Hill returned for the season finale where she defeated Emily Kagan by unanimous decision, but despite her relative lack of experience she then found herself in a tough match-up with Tecia Torres who defeated her by unanimous decision, and then against TUF 20 finalist Rose Namajunas who submitted her in the first round.
Given that her last two opponents were top 5 contenders while she herself was unranked it doesn’t seem particularly fair that she’s now been shown the exit door, but Hill is trying to look on the positive side of things.
“Last year in April I had my first MMA fight,” Hill wrote on Twitter. “2 days later I flew out to Vegas and tried out for The Ultimate Fighter. It’s been a roller coaster ride and I proved to myself how strong I could be through the shittiest situations. After 2 losses to top 5 ranked opponents I got the call that I’ve been released from the UFC. It’s bittersweet, but I’ll hopefully be able to stay more active outside the octagon and gain the XP I need to make my way back to that belt.”
A promotion like Invicta FC would be a good landing spot for Hill and she definitely has the potential to make it back to the Octagon in the future.
