Anthony Pettis Out; Edson Barboza Vs Myles Jury Now In At UFC On FOX 16

Former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis has suffered an elbow injury that has forced him to pull out of his upcoming fight with Myles Jury at UFC On FOX 16 on July 25th.

The injury is serious enough that Pettis will now have to undergo surgery. At this stage there’s no word on how long he’ll be out for, but no doubt the injury-prone 28 year-old will be frustrated by having to spend yet another spell on the sidelines.

Pettis’ loss is Edson Barboza’s gain however as he’s now been quickly drafted in as his replacement to face Jury on the main card of the event on FOX.

Barboza is currently placed at No.7 in the division despite a recent loss to Michael Johnson. Prior to that the Brazilian had racked up back-to-back wins over Evan Dunham and Bobby Green and holds an overall 9-3 record in the UFC to date.

This new match-up makes a lot of sense as Jury is just one spot behind Barboza in the rankings at No.8 and he too is coming off a loss last time out to Donald Cerrone. The 26 year-old had an unblemished 15-0 record prior to that including six wins in a row inside the Octagon.

So, with Barboza Vs Jury on-board the UFC On FOX 16 main card proceeds with a bantamweight title rematch between TJ Dillashaw and Renan Barao still scheduled to headline proceedings, with a woman’s bantamweight title eliminator between Miesha Tate Vs Jessica Eye also on tap.
