Bellator 277 Results

Bellator 277 took place last night and we’ve got all the results for you below.

In the main event of the evening there was a featherweight title rematch as AJ Mckee sought to defend the belt he’d won from Patricio Freire by submission back in July of last year.

The rematch proved to be a closely contested fight without too much in the way of major flashpoints. Mckee appeared a little busier in the first round, but Freire started to find his rhythm in the second round. Then in the third round Freire appeared to rock Mckee with a punch, but he recovered well to quickly secure a takedown. Freire also threatened with a guillotine choke, but Mckee was able to get out and improved his position to take the back of his opponent.

Mckee seemed to edge out the fourth round and then did solidly in the fifth round as he pushed the action and landed takedowns, leaving the judges with a lot to think about.

In the end the judges surprised some pundits by handing Freire the victory via unanimous decision (49-46 x2, 48-47) to ensure he reclaimed the title, while handing Mckee the first loss of his 19-fight career.

Meanwhile, the main event proved anti-climatic after an accidental headbutt by Corey Anderson in the third round left his opponent Vadim Nemkov unable to continue due to a bad cut, resulting in a no-contest ruling.

Earlier Aaron Pico dominated Adli Edwards with his powerful striking and takedowns, before thunderous punches up against the cage early in the third round sunk his opponent to the mat to seal a TKO victory.

Linton Vassell also picked up a TKO victory over Tim Johnson in the first round despite being dropped first, before managing to scramble on top and land brutal elbows and punches to secure the finish.
