BJ Penn Targets Third Title Shot Ahead Of Comeback This Weekend

BJ Penn will finally make his comeback this Sunday night against Yair Rodriguez at UFC Fight Night 103, but his aspirations extend far beyond just a one-and-done appearance in the Octagon.

Despite now being 38-years old and having only recorded one win since 2010, Penn has his sights set on fighting for another title, this time at featherweight, having previously won both the lightweight and welterweight belts during his storied career.

“My whole goal right now is to just get that third world title. And then we’ll see,” Penn said in an interview for MMA Fighting. “If it takes a little while, maybe we walk away. If we get it quick, then maybe we go to 155. I don’t know. I don’t know, but I know … I’m in here to fight and I’m going to win on Sunday, and you’re going to see me again quick after this, for sure.”

Despite his many accomplishments in the sport, and the fact that he’s still revered by fans around the globe, it’s clear that Penn still has something to prove, and is eager to banish the memories of the slump in form at the tail-end of his career that left him with just one win and a draw from his last seven fights.

“Getting those three titles in three different weight classes, that would just be an awesome accomplishment for myself, and then I could probably get some sleep at night. That is my driving factor.”
