BJ Penn Vs Rory MacDonald Is Set For UFC On FOX 5, But Won’t Headline The Show

All signs now point to BJ Penn and Rory MacDonald taking place at ‘UFC On FOX 5’ on December 8th, but interestingly it isn’t going to headline the show.

When news of the fight first broke on the MMA Uncensored Live show it was immediately assumed that the much-talked about welterweight clash would front the final FOX event of the year, but MMAJunkie cites source close to the situation as having indicated that it will instead take the co-main event slot.

That would indicate that the UFC have plans to put on a major fight as the headline attraction for the show, though at this stage there’s no indication as to what it might be.

So far this year ‘UFC On FOX’ cards have typically played host to No.1 contender showdowns, such as Rashad Evans Vs Phil Davis, Nate Diaz Vs Jim Miller and last weekend’s light-heavyweight double-bill.

Having said that, in a recent interview Dana White indicated that there was the potential for another title fight to front one of the future FOX shows, though he claimed there was no plans to do so just yet.

Whatever they gave in mind the UFC could certainly use something that will attract attention as their recent ratings for the ‘UFC On FOX’ event have fallen short of the mark, dropping from the initial 5.7 million viewers who tuned into the first FOX show to just 2.4 million for their past two shows.
