Carlos Condit Suffers Detached Retina; Fight With Mickey Gall Cancelled

Carlos Condit has suffered a detached retina and that will force him out of an upcoming fight with Mickey Gall at UFC On ESPN 7 in Washington D.C. on December 7th.

“Unfortunately I am out of the fight against Mickey Gall,” Condit wrote on Instagram. “I have a detached retina and I need surgery. It sucks and it’s a [sh*tty] situation. My apologies to Mickey and his team. Hopefully the UFC can find a replacement. I hope to be healed up and back sometime in the spring.”

The injury blow comes at a time when Condit is desparately seeking a win in the UFC, having lost his last five fights in a row.

In fact, the troubling reality is that the former title contender has lost eight of his last ten fights, although it’s worth noting that the standard of competition has been very high throughout, including defeats against the likes of former champions GSP, Johny Hendricks, Tyron Woodley and Robbie Lawler, along with Demian Maia, Neil Magny, Alex Oliveira and most recently Michael Chiesa.

Condit’s last win came against Thiago Alves back in 2015.

The UFC now have just a few weeks to find a replacement opponent to keep Gall on the card, which will be headlined by a heavyweight encounter between Alistair Overeem and Jairzinho Rozenstruik.
