Carlos Diego Ferreira was able to outstrike Billy Quarantillo over three rounds to win by unanimous decision tonight at UFC Fight Night 284.
Round One
Front kick to the body from Quarantillo to start. exchange in close and Ferreira landed a knee to the body in there.
Quarantillo wades forward with punches. Front kick from Ferreira. Quarantillo tries for a takedown, but Ferreira sprawls.
They get back up to striking range. Push kick from Ferreira. One-two from him. A couple of missed kicks from Quarantillo. Ferreira lands to the head.
Quarantillo with a punch. Body kick for Ferreira. A couple of punches get through for Ferreira. He lands another two.
Quarantillo trying to work for a takedown now, but Ferreira gets away. Hard one-two for Ferreira.
Hard right hands are finding the mark for Ferreira here. Body kick for Ferreira now and then soon after drives in for a successful takedown.
Ferreira settles into half-guard. A couple of elbow strikes land to the head. Now elbows to the body too.
Ferreira passes to side control, but quickly is back to half-guard. Quarantillo with kicks to back Ferreira up and then stands. Body kick for Ferreira. Low kick for Quarantillo.
Round Two
Quarantillo presses forward behind kicks. Ferreira charging forward now, but it’s Quarantillo who lands a counter hook.
Quarantillo fires off a series of jabs. Spinning kick to the body from Quarantillo. Body kick for Ferreira now. HIgh kick from Quarantillo.
Quarantillo applying lots of pressure here as he fires off more punches. Ferreira working for a takedown attempt, but soon they get back to striking range.
Strikes exchange at close range without many clean connections. A couple of punches get through for Ferreira. He lands another solid right hand. That right gets through again.
Jab for Quarantillo now. Ferreira with a couple of one-two’s that put Quarantillo back on his heels.
Ferreira drives across the Octagon to land a takedown, but Quarantillo is back up quickly. Ferreira stays clinched up, but Quarantillo reverses the position.
Ferreira gets away. He lands a jab. A few missed punches from him now. Push kick from Ferreira. Exchange of punches in close.
Quarantillo punches to the body. Front kick to the body from Ferreira, but Quarantillo knocks him to the mat with a kick to his other leg at the same time.
Ferreira straight back up and they exchange again. Right hand for Ferreira. Jab from Quarantillo. Quarantillo trips Ferreira. They continue exchanging at the end of the round.
Round Three
Quarantillo applies pressure to start the final round. He lands his jab. A couple of right hands get through for Ferreira.
Ferreira continuing to fire off punches and then fails on a quick takedown attempt. Jab from Quarantillo. Now a right hand from him.
Jabs for Ferreira now. A couple more right hands connect for him. Body punch from Ferreira.
Quarantillo able to get a takedown now against the cage with over three minutes of the fight to go.
Ferreira works back up and switches to almost get on top. Quarantillo standing with Ferreira on his back. Ferreira able to keep him down. They scramble and Ferreira gets to mount and lands an elbow. Quarantillo scrambling again and escapes.
Big swings and mises from Quarantillo. Ferreira tries for a takedown but doesn’t get it this time. KIck from Quarantillo. Jab from him. He lands again, but then Ferreira blasts him with a hard one-two.
Quarantillo still trying to apply pressure and lands a right hand. Ferreira digging deep to land another combination. Ferreira shoots, but Quarantillo sprawls on top.
Quarantillo gets into Ferreira’s closed guard late in the round. He’s not able to get much meaningful offense off from the position, so we’re headed to the judges for a decision.
Decision
Quarantillo tried to wear down the 41-year-old Ferreira with constant pressure tonight in Las Vegas, but the veteran was not only able to withstand that, but also repeatedly get the better of the striking exchanges, with his right hand find the mark repeatedly over 15 minutes to help secure a unanimous decision victory (30-27 x3).
