Charles Oliveira became the UFC’s new lightweight champion in style on Saturday night at UFC 262 when he suffered through early adversity against Michael Chandler and then went on to TKO him early in the second round.
Oliveira has since returned to Brazil, where he was greeted by a hero’s reception on the streets of his hometown, Guaruja, Sao Paola as he paraded the belt.
The 31-year-old is certainly a worthy champion after having amassed a nine-fight winning streak, while also shattering UFC records, including having the most submission finishes in the history of the promotion (14).
Among those have congratulated Oliveira on his title win was Conor McGregor, though he made it clear he’s now got ‘Do Bronx’ in his sights.
“Congrats to Olivera on becoming the 11th UFC lightweight champion,” McGregor wrote. “Wonder who Twelve is…”
However, Oliveira wasn’t in the mood to play games with ‘The Notorious’ and warned him not to overlook his upcoming trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier.
“Conor, worry about Dustin,” Oliveira said via translator. “Then we’ll talk about it.”
But he wasn’t finished there.
“Conor, since you’re so tough, first of all, you beat Dustin, and then come over to Brazil and I’ll put you on your ass.”
