Bobby Green has withdrawn from his fight with Clay Guida at UFC 225 in Chicago on June 9th for as yet undisclosed reasons.
In his place the promotion have now managed to line up Charles ‘Do Bronx’ Oliveira, who steps in on less than two weeks notice to fight on the stacked card.
It’s a risky move for the 28-year-old Oliveira to accept the fight with so little time to prepare given that he’s lost four of his last six fights in the Octagon.
That includes a TKO loss to Paul Felder last time out in December of 2017, with his other defeats coming to other high-level opposition in Ricardo Lamas, Anthony Pettis and Max Holloway, while inbetween times he did manage to secure victories against both Will Brooks and Myles Jury.
As for Guida, he’s managed to dig himself out of an even longer run of disappointing results that saw him claim just three wins in nine fights.
The last of those defeats came by way of knockout against Brian Ortega in 2016, but he began to turn things around in 2017, with a decision victory over Erik Koch followed by a TKO stoppage win against Joe Lauzon getting the 36-year-old’s career back on track.
Guida Vs Oliveira joins a UFC 225 card that features a middleweight title fight rematch between Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero in addition to an interim welterweight title bout between Colby Covington and Rafael dos Anjos.
