Chris Camozzi Steps In To Rematch Jacare Souza At UFC On FOX 15

Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza will remain on the UFC On FOX 15 main card after all after Chris Camozzi agreed to step in on short notice to replace Yoel Romero who had to pull out of the fight due to an injury.

It’s a big ask for Camozzi to step in on just a week’s notice against an opponent of Jacare’s caliber – particular as the last time they met in May of 2013 he lasted less than a round before being submitted via an arm-triangle choke.

That brought an end to a four-fight winning streak for Camozzi at the time and would be the first of a four fight losing run that resulted in him being released from the promotion in September of last year.

With that in mind it becomes more clear why Camozzi is willing to take such a risky fight – it’s his ticket back to the big show after earning a couple of wins under the banner of the regional promotion Prize FC lately.

On paper this looks like a very winnable fight for ‘Jacare’ though, and if so that would keep him in the No.1 contender spot at middleweight and in with a chance of fighting the winner of the upcoming title fight between current champion Chris Weidman and Vitor Belfort at UFC 187 in May.

However, the headlining pairing of Luke Rockhold and Lyoto Machida at UFC On FOX 15 will also have a big say on who gets the next title shot.
