Conor McGregor Claims Best-Selling UFC PPV Of 2020; Masvidal’s Camp Disagrees

Conor McGregor has laid claim to having had the best-selling UFC pay-per-view of 2020 back in January when he TKO’d Donald Cerrone in just 40 seconds, but not everyone agrees with that assessment.

“Congrats to the @ufc on a well fought 2020!” McGregor wrote on social media. “The only sporting company on the planet to come through the entire year! Incredible!

“I am honoured to secure their highest PPV of the year with McGregor Vs Cerrone.”

Along with the message, McGregor included a screenshot of his PPV numbers for the events, which show the initial projection for the event was 1,285,562 pay-per-view buys, but that the actual collected reported buys ended up being 1,353,429 buys.

That’s an impressive haul, but Jorge Masvidal’s camp have since disputed that this is the top-selling PPV of the year.

Masvidal headlined UFC 251 opposite Kamaru Usman on Fight Island back in July as part of a stacked card that also included Alexander Volkanovski vs. Max Holloway and Petr Yan vs. Jose Aldo, and according to his manager Ibraham Kawa, it performed even better than UFC 246.

However, unlike McGregor, Kawa declined to back up his claims with evidence, though it had previously been speculated back in July that the show had delivered in the region of 1.3 million buys.

Whoever actually got the highest number, the UFC will no doubt just be very happy that they still managed to have had several events break the one million buy barrier, proving that the company is still in a strong position despite all the turmoil in the world in 2020.
