Conor McGregor’s manager Audie Attar has revealed that the fighter could fight in July, though much will depend on how successfully the UFC’s health and safety protocols are implemented at their upcoming events.
“Conor is very curious to see whether the health and safety of the athletes and staff are ensured,” Attar told ESPN. “He wants to make sure everyone is taken care of properly.”
McGregor has been vocal in his home country of Ireland about the need to adhere to the self-isolation guidelines implemented there in order to combat the coronavirus pandemic and has also donated a large amount of PPE equipment to hospitals there too, so it’s understandable that he is putting health and safety first when considering whether to return to the UFC’s Octagon in the near future.
Attar also noted that McGregor’s preference would still to be to fight in front of a crowd, but with that not being possible any time soon, there’s a chance he could compete behind closed doors.
“While Conor’s desire would be to fight in front of another sold-out crowd. he does understand what him fighting in an empty arena could do for people at home and would consider if he is comfortable with the way the UFC is holding these events from a health and safety standpoint.”
With that said, Attar has said that McGregor will consider a fight in July after he’s had a chance to observe how things go during the upcoming three events in eight days that will begin tomorrow with UFC 249 in Jacksonville, Florida.
