Conor McGregor was involved in disgraceful scenes following the UFC 223 Media Day at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn today.
McGregor and more than a dozen other members of his entourage were caught on tape brazenly attacking a bus filled with fighters, with the intended target of the assault likely to have been lightweight title contender Khabib Nurmagomedov and his team.
During the thuggish scenes that followed, McGregor was seen grabbing a nearby steel dolly and launching it at the bus, smashing a window that showered some of the people inside the bus with glass.
Among them was fighter Michael Chiesa, who is believed to have suffered multiple facial lacerations as a result of the broken glass. Thankfully it’s been reported that this will not effect his ability to fight Anthony Pettis at UFC 223 on Saturday night. A UFC employee was also believed to have been injured.
Another member of the mob also smashed the front window of the vehicle with a chair, while McGregor was also seen attempting to throw a chair at it too, but was held back from doing so.
A couple of days earlier Nurmagomedov had been involved in a verbal confrontation with McGregor’s teammate Artem Lobov, and it could well be that this was a form of retaliation for that.
If so it was a foolish move as those involved are now likely to find themselves in serious trouble, with Dana White claiming that the NYPD had a warrant out for McGregor’s arrest, while he’s also now believed to be facing multiple lawsuits from those who were victims in the attack.
Meanwhile, Lobov has also been highlighted as one of those involved in the unruly incident and as suchhas been pulled from his fight with Alex Caceres at the event this weekend.
