UFC president and self-confessed Conor McGregor fan Dana White has described the fighters behaviour this week as “despicable” and “disgraceful,” but troublingly, ‘The Notorious’ seems to be showing little signs of remorse for his egregious actions.
Even after the moment of madness that saw McGregor launch a steel dolly through a bus filled with fighters, cornermen and UFC staff at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn earlier this week, there was no indication in the immediate aftermath that the troubled star realized he’d taken things far too far.
In fact, footage from the UFC Embedded crew actually catches McGregor encouraging the mob of over a dozen thugs that had joined him in the attack to smash in more of the bus windows, while he can also be seen laughing out loud as he later flees the scene.
What really beggars belief however is that even hours later as McGregor prepared to turn himself in, during a conversation via text with Dana White, he still firmly believed that his actions were justified in retaliation for a verbal confrontation between Khabib Nurmagomedov and the Irishman’s long-time teammate Artem Lobov earlier in the week.
“It’s not that I don’t think he understood what happened, it’s just that he justified it.” White told ESPN of his interaction with McGregor.
“‘I’m sorry about Mike [Chiesa]. I’m sorry about Rose [Namajunas], and whoever else, but this had to be done,'” White claimed McGregor told him.
Since then McGregor has been charged with three counts of misdemeanor assault and one count of criminal mischief and spent some time behind bars before being released on a $50,000 bail yesterday, so it remains to be seen if that will have shaken some sense into him.
However, right now all the signs point to that not being the case, and that leaves the UFC with a ticking time bomb on their hands.
