Corey Anderson completely dominated Jan Blachowicz on the mat tonight at UFC 191 to earn a convincing unanimous decision victory.
Round One:
Anderson looking the busier fighters to start the opening round as he fires off punches. Blachowicz missing on the hook a few times so far, but he lands a solid body kick.
Two piece combo from Blachowicz connects. He goes for that again. Body kick now and anderson almost catches it. He lands a left hook and then clinches, lands a knee, but finds himself turned against the cage. There’s a battle for position in the clinch against the cage and Blachowicz comes out on top by taking his opponent down to the mat.
He doesn’t keep him there for long though as Anderson is quickly back up. Anderson wings punches, but Blachowicz avoids the incoming offense.
Anderson pushes in on a takedown attempt now, but Blachowicz defends well. Anderson keeps working for it though and eventually does get the Polish fighter to the mat close to the cage. Anderson working in his opponents full guard for now and not doing a whole lot with it for now. Blachowicz tries for an armbar and doesn’t force the tap, but it does help him find a way back to his feet.
Good uppercut from Blachowicz as Anderson comes forward with solid punches. Anderson presses him against the cage and lands a knee as the round comes to a close.
Round Two:
Anderson with a leg kick. Now he goes up high, but it’s blocked. Blachowitz with an uppercut and then shortly afterwards a hard body kick.
Anderson in on a takedown attempt and he gets it. He’s back in full guard as he was in the first round. He lands a couple of elbows. He postures up and lands a few punches now. He pushes Blachowicz right up to the cage and continues to land some elbows and punches. Up and then back down Anderson goes, landing a punch on the way back in.
Two good elbows from Anderson as he continues to wear down the Polish fighter. Anderson stands over Blachowicz, lands a few kicks to his still grounded opponent and then goes back down and is now in half-guard. Solid ground and pound strikes from the former TUF winner now, working to both the head and body.
Rapid-fire elbows to the head connect for Anderson as we reach the final 10 seconds of the round. Good spell there for Anderson and Blachowicz offered very little in response.
Round Three:
Anderson with punches into a takedown attempt and lands it. He’s in half guard immediately and Blachowitz is fishing for a kimura that doesn’t pay off. He gets Anderson back to full guard though.
Blachowicz tries for an armbar, but Anderson is wise to it, moves away momentarily and then goes back down to half guard. This time he works to get to full mount, but only gets it for a brief second before he’s brought back to half. Anderson settles for that for now and begins to work some ground and pound strikes.
Two minutes to go and the elbows start to rain down again. He stands up over his opponent, moves around and then lands a few punches before dropping back into full guard. Blachowicz to his knees and eventually manages to wearily scramble to his feet, though he’s back on the mat with Anderson on top again soon after.
Anderson with some ground and pound as the fight comes to an end.
Result:
No doubt about the winner here, once Anderson got Blachowicz down to the mat he was in complete control of the action for the rest of the fight and he gets a very wide unanimous decision victory (30-25 x2, 29-26).
