Cris ‘Cyborg’ To Fight In 140lb Bout At Invicta FC 15

Following last night’s Invicta FC 14 event, the promotion’s president Shannon Knapp revealed that featherweight champion Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino’s next fight will be at 140lbs.

‘Cyborg’s’ opponent has yet to be established, but it seems she’ll fight in the co-main event of Invicta FC 15 in November beneath an atomweight title fight featuring Livia Renata Souza and Alexa Grasso.

The UFC already have ‘Cyborg’ signed to a conditional deal which requires her to prove she can cut down to 135lbs before she gets a chance to compete in the Octagon.

It had been hoped that her next fight would present that opportunity, but it seems that ‘Cyborg’ is proceeding with caution for now and only going half-way towards her eventual goal of reaching the bantamweight limit.

If she makes it down to the 140lb catchweight in November it won’t be the first time the 30 year-old Brazilian will have done so as she defeated Shayna Baszler at that weight back in 2008 while fighting for the Elite XC promotion.

Of course the eventual goal is to have ‘Cyborg’, who’s undefeated in her last 15 pro fights, take on Ronda Rousey in what would undoubtedly be the biggest woman’s MMA fight of all time and potentially huge box office business for the UFC.

The perfect time for the fight would be at UFC 200 in July of next year, and if that is their goal then that would require ‘Cyborg’ to win in November, then set her sights on fighting again in the early months of 2015, this time at bantamweight.
