Dana White appeared to have given up on his plans to expand his reach into the world of boxing earlier this year, claiming that he had his hands full with running the UFC during the pandemic, but now he’s dropping hints that an announcement regarding his involvement in the sweet science could be just weeks away.
“Yep, I peaked under the hood a lot there for the last year,” White said on the BT Sport Boxing show when asked about a venture into boxing promotion.
“Looked at different things and I said, ‘I don’t know man, I don’t know if this is fixable.’
“Funny enough, since the pandemic I’ve been looking at other options too. And we’ll probably have something to announce here soon. Yeah [it is in the world of boxing].
“When it’s time, I’ll let you know, I’m not ready yet. But [it’ll be] in the next couple of weeks.”
White wouldn’t be drawn further on what the announcement might be, but it does give food for thought as to whether it might have anything to do with the UFC president also indicating recently that he had been “working on some fun stuff” for Conor McGregor.
McGregor has been known to want to return to boxing at some stage, but fans may feel that if he is going to comeback in the near future then it should be in the Octagon under MMA rules, rather than boxing.
Of course it could be something completely different that White has up his sleeve, but no doubt the speculation and rumors will continue to build as to what it might over the course of the next week or two.
