We’re not even a week removed from Chris Weidman’s historic knockout victory against Anderson Silva, but the UFC are already busy putting the wheel’s in motion for a potential rematch.
Initially after his first ever loss in the UFC, Silva indicated that he wasn’t interested in an immediate chance at redemption against Weidman, but earlier this week word emerged from sources close to the Brazilian superstar that he quickly changed his mind on the matter and is now eager to face him sooner rather than later.
That came as no surprise to Dana White who’s consistently stated since the fight ended that Silva would quickly warm up to the idea – so much so that he’s already been busy trying to find a suitable date and venue to host what he believes could be one of the biggest fights in UFC history.
Initially he had suggested hosting it next year during Superbowl weekend, but he backed off that idea and was believed to be considering having it replace Ronda Rousey Vs Miesha Tate as the main event on the UFC’s end of year show in December.
It’s still not clear when the fight will go down, but MMAfighting.com reports that White anticipates speaking with Silva on Thursday to discuss the rematch, and he apparently is going to suggest the 105,000 seater Dallas Cowboys stadium in Houston, Texas as the venue.
