Demetrious Johnson Vs John Dodson II Will Take Place Later This Year

Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson’s next title defense will come in the shape of a rematch with John Dodson at an event later this year according to Ariel Helwani on last night’s edition of the UFC Tonight show.

Dodson is the current No.1 contender in the division and though he has a previous decision loss to ‘Mighty Mouse’ back in January of 2013, he does still appear to be as tough a challenge for the champion as anyone in the division at this moment in time.

Having said that, Dodson didn’t look at his best last time out against former Bellator champion Zach Makovsky last month, though to be fair ‘The Magician’ was returning after almost a year out due to a knee injury that required ACL surgery and did still pick up a unanimous decision victory.

He’ll need to be at his very best against Johnson though as the reigning champion has been ruling the division with an iron fist and will be looking to remain unbeaten in 10 fights and put together his seventh consecutive title defense when he meets Dodson again.

At this stage the title fight doesn’t have a date or location, though it’s believed that Johnson is hoping for it to land at UFC 191 on September 5th in Las Vegas, potentially as the co-main event beneath a light-heavyweight title bout between Daniel Cormier and Alexander Gustafsson.
