Diego Sanchez Vs Ross Pearson Signed For UFC Fight Night 42

A lightweight scrap between two former winners of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ reality show, Diego Sanchez and Ross Pearson, has been made official for UFC fight Night 42 in New Mexico on June 7th, the promotions first visit to the state.

Albuquerque is Sanchez’s home turf so he begged to be added to this card despite the fact that he’s only just coming off a fight a couple of weeks ago.

On that occasion he picked up a unanimous decision loss to Myles Jury, and that marks his third loss in four fights, so this next fight is going to be a must-win for the man formerly known as ‘The Nightmare’.

Pearson heads into this fight after a no-contest ruling against Melvin Guillard back in October of last year in which he was the victim of an illegal knee to the head while on the ground.

The UK fighter was coming off second best in that fight though prior to the illegal blow, so he’ll be keen to banish the memory of that and get back to winning ways.

Neither Sanchez or Pearson currently feature on the official lightweight rankings, but both are still popular fighters and so this will most likely serve as the co-main event at UFC Fight Night 42 which will be headlined by another lightweight encounter that sees former champoion Ben Henderson take on Rustam Khabilov.

Over the years I've watched the UFC develop into the powerhouse it is today, organizations like PRIDE, Strikeforce and WEC rise and fall, and Bellator emerge as a new force on the MMA landscape. Throughout it all I've remained captivated by the sport and I'm excited to cover what comes next here on MMA Insight.
