Dustin Poirier has been forced out of his upcoming fight with Nate Diaz at UFC 230 iin New York City on November 3rd.
The fight was scheduled to be the co-main event of the evening at Madison Square Garden, but Poirier has picked up an undisclosed injury that’s left him unable to compete.
The news comes in after the event received a new headliner, with heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier looking to defend his title for the first time against ‘The Black Beast’ Derrick Lewis on less than a month’s notice.
Since the news first broke Dana White has revealed that Diaz will no longer be fighting on the card either. The fight was set to have been the Stockton native’s first in over two years since his money-spinning rematch with Conor McGregor at UFC 202, which he lost by majority decision.
As for Poirier, he was coming into the fight off a five-fight unbeaten stretch that had seen him TKO the likes of Anthony Pettis, Justin Gaethje and Eddie Alvarez in the past year.
That had left ‘The Diamond’ ranked at No.3 in the division and on the verge of title contention if he had been able to take out a high-profile opponent like Diaz, but it seems like he’ll now have to sit out and wait for another opportunity to continue his impressive run of form.
