Here’s something straight out of left field – UFC middleweight fighter Ed Herman will cross over to Strikeforce for their last ever event to take on former champion Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza.
The fight was hastily arranged after ‘Jacare’s’ original opponent Lorenz Larkin pulled out of the January 12th show due to an injury.
Herman is currently enjoying something of a purple patch in his career, enjoing three wins in his last four fights before losing a decision to Jake Shields only to have that changed to a ‘No Contest’ after it emerged his opponent had used a banned substance.
Meanwhile, BJJ ace ‘Jacare’ has long been one of Strikeforce’s top 185lb fighters, with a 6-1 record during his time in the organization with his only loss being to current champion Luke Rockhold who took the belt from him back in September of last year.
The Brazilian has looked like being someone who can make a significant impact in the UFC’s ranks and if he can beat Herman then that should lead to some high profile match-ups for him in the Octagon next year.
