Former UFC fighter Mikey Burnett and his son Freddie were shot in an attempted robbery in Tulsa, Oklahoma last night.

The two were returning to their car at around 7.30pm after working out at a local gym when two men attempted to rob them.

Burnett’s son tried to fight them off, but things quickly turned bad with Mikey Burnett suffering three bullet wounds to his abdomen while Freddie was shot in the leg before their attackers fled in a nearby vehicle.

Thankfully the latest word is that both members of the Burnett family are expected to survive their wounds.

At this stage no description of the assailants are available, but police hope to use nearby security cameras to aid in their search for them.

Mikey Burnett fought three times for the UFC back in 1998-1999, including a split decision loss to Pat Militech in a welterweight title fight at UFC: Brazil.

He later re-emerged on The Ultimate Fighter Season 4, but suffered a broken neck which he didn’t receive surgery for due to insurance issues. The injury would eventually force Burnett to retire prematurely with a 5-2 career record.
