Gegard Mousasi Vs Costas Philippou Goes Down At UFC Fight Night 66

A middleweight fight between Gegard Mousasi and Costas Philippou will serve as the co-main event at UFC Fight Night 66 in the Philippines on May 16th.

The No.7 ranked Mousasi is coming off a 70 second TKO victory against Dan Henderson in Sweden earlier in the year.

He’ll now be hoping that’s the start of a more consistent run of form in the UFC as the former Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion has yet to claim back-to-back wins during his 3-2 in the promotion so far. He’s certainly more than capable of doing so with an overall 36-5-2 career record that includes several long winning streaks.

Philippou is also heading to this fight off the back of a swift victory, knocking out Lorenz Larkin in the first round of their encounter back in May of last year.

That brought an end to a two-fight losing streak against Francis Carmont and Luke Rockhold, and left him placed at No.12 in the divisional rankings. He currently holds a 6-3 record in the UFC overall since joining in early 2011.

The UFC’s first ever visit to the Philippines will be headlined by an intriguing featherweight match-up between Frankie Edgar and Urijah Faber and is expected to air live on FOX Sports 1.

Over the years I've watched the UFC develop into the powerhouse it is today, organizations like PRIDE, Strikeforce and WEC rise and fall, and Bellator emerge as a new force on the MMA landscape. Throughout it all I've remained captivated by the sport and I'm excited to cover what comes next here on MMA Insight.
