It’s now been officially confirmed that a lightweight title unification bout between current UFC champion Ben Henderson and incoming Strikeforce title holder Gilbert Melendez will headline ‘UFC On FOX 7’ on April 20th in San Jose.
On top of that it’s also now been announced that another new acquisition from Strikeforce, heavyweight grand-prix winner Daniel Cormier will make his debut against Frank Mir in the co-main event.
Mir had originally been slated to face Cormier late last year in the Strikeforce cage, but the fight was cancelled after Mir suffered an injury.
Both men were still eager to go ahead with the match-up however, with Cormier calling for it after his latest victory at Strikeforce’s final show on Saturday night.
With these two fights on tap it appears that the UFC are continuing to make a big commitment to putting on major fights on free TV and this could turn out to be one of the best yet.
