Henry Cejudo has already had a stellar 2019 campaign already, but it looks like the two-division champion now won’t be able to defend either of his titles until next year.
The reason for that is that Cejudo is about to undergo surgery on the subscapularis muscle in his shoulder, which he tore during his last fight, and that’s going to require at least four to five months of rehab before he’s in a position to return.
‘The Messenger’ will then need time to prepare for his next fight, so it looks like it’ll be 2020 before we see Cejudo in the Octagon again.
That means the top end of both the flyweight and bantamweight divisions will now be on hold until his return – one of the drawbacks of having a single fighter be the champion in more than one weight class.
Cejudo is currently on a five-fight winning streak that included a decision victory over Demetrious Johnson last year to win the flyweight title, before going on to successfully defend it in a superfight with a TKO victory over TJ Dillashaw earlier this year and then moving up to bantamweight to claim the vacant title with another TKO finish against Marlon Moraes.
