Holly Holm’s 2018 Campaign Is Over After Undergoing Knee Surgery

Holly Holm won’t be seen back in the Octagon this year after she underwent knee surgery last week to repair a torn meniscus.

The 36-year-old’s surgery is believed to have been successful and she is now expected to return to action in early 2019.

Holm is coming off a unanimous decision victory over former Invicta FC champion Megan Anderson at UFC 225 back in June in the featherweight division, but it’s believed that for her next fight she intends to drop back down to bantamweight, where she previously won the title with a stunning head kick KO against Ronda Rousey back in 2015.

Holm never quite managed to fully capitalize on that moment in time however and lost to Miesha Tate in her first title defense and then suffered a further loss to Valentina Shevchenko before moving up to 145lbs.

Nevertheless, Holm’s last fight at 135lbs against Bethe Correia last year ended with another head kick KO victory and her manager Lenny Fresquez has now indicated that as the No.1 contender, ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ is hoping to fight current bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes upon her return to action.

However, Nunes has other pressing business to take care of first as she is already signed up to superfight with featherweight champion Cris ‘Cyborg’ at UFC 232 on December 28th in Las Vegas.
