Invicta FC 13 took place last night and we’ve got all the results for you below.
In the main event of the evening Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino easily defended her featherweight title with a violent TKO finish against Faith Van Duin just 45 seconds into the fight.
Van Duin was completely overmatched here, essentially a lamb to the slaughter here as ‘Cyborg’ beat her up almost from the opening bell, hurting her with hard punches against the cage before felling her with a knee, and that was that.
That was the last of three title fights on the card with Tonya Evinger snatched the vacant Invicta FC bantamweight title in the co-main event as she stopped the favorite Irene Aldana by TKO in the fourth round.
Evinger showed superior grappling technique throughout the fight, controlling the action from dominant positions on top and wearing down her opponent gradually before a sustained ground and pound flurry from mount late in the penultimate frame finally handed her the stoppage victory.
Earlier Ayaka Hamasaki had procued an upset split decision win over Herica Tiburcio to become Invicta’s new atomweight champion.
This was a fun, technical fight with Hamasaki able to work decently from range in the striking department while mostly bossing the fight with takedowns and control on the mat, though Tiburcio stayed active throughout and was crafty from her back with multiple submission attempts.
It’s also worth noting that in the opening bout of the prelims, Ronda Rousey’s close friend and former training partner Marina Shafir again suffered another knockout loss, lasting just 37 seconds against Amber Leibrock.
There had been high hopes for Shafir who, like Rousey, comes from a Judo background and had put together a good run in amateur MMA, but things have not gone according to plan since turning pro and she’s now lost back-to-back fights by KO to go 1-2 in her fledgling career.
