Israel Adesanya Questions Alex Pereira’s Decision To Stay At Heavyweight

Israel Adesanya has questioned Alex Pereira’s recent decision to stay up at heavyweight to fight Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 335 in December after suffering a TKO loss to Ciryl Gane back in June.

“I wouldn’t stay [at heavyweight, no,” Pereira had said earlier this week when asked if he would stay in the weight class if he also lost to Pavlovich. “I would go back to light heavyweight. I think that would be the ideal thing to do.

“Everyone knows I’m not a big guy like these heavyweights. So I’m not going to stay there taking a beating at that disadvantage. So I would go back to my division, where I was more comfortable. I think that would be the best thing to do.”

However, Pereira’s old middleweight rival Adesanya has now come out to state his opinion that the star should already have dropped back down to 205lbs.

“I already saw a clip of Pereira saying if he loses to Pavlovich, he is going back down to 205… I don’t like that,” Adesanya said on his “Precision” podcast with co-host Demetrious Johnson. “I don’t like putting that out there. F*ck you mean, ‘If I lose?’ Why not just go back to 205 after that last fight with Ciryl Gane? I thought he was gonna go to 205; it made sense. I don’t know why he is taking this fight; it doesn’t make sense to me.”

For the record, ‘Mighty Mouse’ also added in that, “I don’t like that either,” regarding the Pereira vs. Pavlovich match-up, with both seemingly in agreement that ‘Poatan’ is better suited to light-heavyweight.
