Joe Rogan Lets Slip That Junior dos Santos Vs Alistair Overeem Is In The Works

During the latest episode of his ‘Fight Companion’ podcast, UFC color commentator Joe Rogan appeared to let slip that a previously unannounced fight between heavyweight stars Junior dos Santos and Alistair Overeem is currently in the works.

During the podcast, which was recorded live alongside UFC Fight Night 73 on Saturday night, Brendan Schaub asked Rogan if he knew what was happening with Overeem.

“Alistair Overeem vs Junior dos Santos,” Rogan replied. “I just called it today, I did a countdown thing for it.”

Rogan almost immediately realized that he probably shouldn’t have said that and when asked if the fight was official he sheepishly admitted, “I don’t know. I just leaked it. Sorry.”

He then backtracked and claimed that, “There are a bunch of fights I have done countdown shows for that have never taken place.”

JDS Vs Overeem is a fight that the UFC has wanted to make for a long time, and in fact it was set to happen all the way back in 2012 when Dos Santos still held the heavyweight title, but it was scrapped after Overeem failed a drug test.

The UFC’s attempts to put the fight together since haven’t worked out, but perhaps now is the time that we’ll finally get to see these two stars lock horns.

JDS is coming off a win over Stipe Miocic back in December of last year, getting back to winning ways after suffering a second defeat at the hands of Cain Velasquez in their trilogy fight, while Overeem has racked up two wins in a row over Stefan Struve and Roy Nelson.
