Jon Jones Claims He’s Vacating His Light-Heavyweight Title

Jon Jones Emotional Press Conference

Jon Jones has gone one step further in his ongoing feud with Dana White by claiming that he’s vacating his light-heavyweight title.

“#ESPN Reyes vs Jan For the UFC light heavyweight championship of the world. As of right now, I got nothing to really gain fighting either of them,” Jones wrote on Twitter. “Let me know if you guys want to set up a day in 2021 for that Izzy fight. Hopefully you guys will be willing to pay by then.”

Asked by a fan to confirm that he was revoking his title, Jones simply replied, “Yes.”

Another follower told Jones that he would be hurting himself more than the UFC by going through with this threat, but that didn’t appear to deter him.

“I hurt myself every time I walk out there and take a punch to the head and Not feel my pay is worth it anymore,” Jones responded.

The pay dispute began when Jones publicly complained that the UFC weren’t willing to meet his financial expectations for a superfight with Francis Ngannou, which led to Dana White retaliating that the 205lb champ’s demands were “absurd” and that he was asking for “Deontay Wilder” money.

Jones then accused White of lying, while the UFC President has continued to stick to his guns and at the UFC On ESPN 9 post-fight press conference on Saturday night claimed that he, “could care less” what the star said.
