Jorge Masvidal has agreed to fight Siyar Bahadurzada at UFC 201 in Atlanta, Georgia on July 30th as a replacement for the injured Claudio Silva.
This will be an important fight for the 31 year-old ‘Gamebred’, as he’s lost three of his last four fights, though it should be noted that each of those defeats came by split decision.
Masvidal had moved up to welterweight following the first split decision loss to Al Iaquinta last year, but after a successful debut in the division above, KO’ing Cezar Ferreira, he’s since come out on the wrong end of decisions to Ben Henderson and Lorenz Larkin.
In Bahadurzada, he’s facing a 32 year-old Afghan fighter who returned to the sport after a two-year absence in 2015, notching up a win over Brandon Thatch by submission.
Prior to that Bahadurzada had suffered unanimous decision losses to John Howard and Dong Hyun Kim, and overall he’s 2-2 in his run in the Octagon so far, though he holds an overall 22-6-1 career record.
UFC 201 is set to be headlined by a welterweight title encounter between current champion Robbie Lawler and Tyron Woodley, while there’s more championship action in the co-main event as Demetrious Johnson makes his latest defense of the flyweight belt against Wilson Reis.
