Heavyweight star Josh Barnett will take part in Strikeforce’s last ever event on January 12th, taking on newcomer Nandor Guelmino.
Barnett was last seen in the Strikeforce cage competing in their heavyweight Grand-Prix final where he lost out by decision to Daniel Cormier.
Guelmino appears to have been plucked out of thin air and seems a strange choice for Barnett, but to be fair the Austrian does hold a solid 13-3 record and is currently on a seven fight winning streak.
Given that Barnett has had a rocky relationship with the UFC and Dana White in the past it’s still not clear whether he will be joining the promotion after this final encounter under the Strikeforce banner.
Despite champions Gilbert Melendez and Luke Rockhold both pulling out of Strikeforce’s curtain call it’s still shaping up to be a reasonably star-filled line-up with Nate Marquardt set to defend his title while the likes of Daniel Cormier and Gegard Mousasi are also scheduled to compete on the Showtime televised main card.
