Josh Thomson departed the UFC for Bellator last week and we now know who he’ll be fighting in his promotional debut.
Thomson has been lined up to face Legacy FC lightweight champion Mike Bronzoulis At Bellator 142 ‘Dynamite’ which takes place on September 19th in San Jose, California.
The 36 year-old Thomson had been struggling in the UFC of late, suffering three losses in a row, albeit against top 10 opposition at the time in Ben Henderson, Bobby Green and Tony Ferguson.
Not so long ago Bronzoulis, 36, was also on the receiving end of three defeats in a row, but he’s since turned his fortunes around, producing a three fight winning streak in the Legacy FC promotion which culiminated in him winning their lightweight title in May.
An experienced campaigner with almost 30 fights under his belt, this will be Bronzioulis’s toughest, most high-profile fight to date and a golden opportunity to really put himself on the map.
Thomson Vs Bronzoulis will feature on the main card of the Bellator 142 show which is headlined by a light-heavyweight title fight between current champion Liam McGeary and Tito Ortiz.
Bellator 142 should prove to be quite a spectacle as it will essentially be a co-promotion with GLORY! kickboxing which means that there’ll be both a cage and a ring inside the arena on the night.
If that wasn’t enough there’ll also be a one-night four-man light-heavyweight tournament featuring former champion Emanual Newton, Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal, Phil Davis and Linton Vassell with the winner earning a title shot against whoever emerges on top in the main event.
That’s quite a show!
