Junior dos Santos Vs Stipe Miocic Set For UFC 173

Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos will return to the Octagon against Stipe Miocic at UFC 173 on May 24th in Las Vegas.

Dos Santos hasn’t fought since his defeat against Cain Velasquez back in October – his second loss to the champion in the space of a year.

While Velasquez has proven to be his nemesis, dos Santos is still considered by most pundits as the second best heavyweight in the division, and it’s hard to argue with that with wins over 10 other fighters in the UFC to his name, seven coming by way of strikes.

Miocic has notched up victories over Roy Nelson and Gabriel Gonzaga in the past year, taking him to 5-1 in the UFC and leaving him positioned as the No.7 ranked contender in the division.

Dos Santos Vs Miocic will serve as the co-main event for UFC 173 which is now headlined by a middleweight title fight between Chris Weidman and Lyoto Machida.

That’s still a very competitive fight, but it doesn’t carry the same level of hype as Weidman Vs Vitor Belfort would have and so the addition of Dos Santos Vs Miocic helps bolster the line-up and ensure that this will be an event fans will be happy to spend their hard earned cash on.
