Luke Rockhold will defend his middleweight title against Lorenz Larkin at Strikeforce: Cormier Vs Mir on November 3rd.
It’s a somewhat surprising decision given that many had been anticipating a rematch between Rockhold and former champion Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza instead. Indeed that’s the fight that Rockhold himself had stated recently that he was most interested in.
Instead he’ll take on Larkin who’s technically unbeaten in his MMA career, though he did suffer a second round KO loss to Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal at light-heavyweight back in January, though the fight was later declared a no-contest when Lawal tested positive for steroids.
Since then Larkin has made the move down to 185lbs and notched up a win over Robbie Lawler back in July to go 13-0 (1nc) overall in his MMA career.
He’ll have his work cut out for him trying to maintain that unbeaten stretch against Rockhold who’s looking to make his third successful title defense after defeating both Keith Jardine and Tim Kennedy this year so far.
While Rockhold Vs Larkin isn’t a fight fans were crying out for, it does make a solid co-main event for the headline bout which sees Strikeforce heavyweight tournament winner Daniel Cormier going up against the UFC’s Frank Mir.
